Problems with Dinosaur Extinction

The extinction of the dinosaurs has been a topic of raging controversy for many years. Scientists have been debating on how the dinosaurs all died. Why? Because there is no adequate explanation for all (that is a very important word) dinosaurs becoming extinct. First of all, let look at the hard facts:

- There are millions of dinosaur bones scattered across the earth.

- There was a global catastrophe that killed millions of dinosaurs.

- There is no evidence that they all went extinct.

Now we will look at some explanations for the extinction of the dinosaurs. There are mainly two groups of scientists that offer hypothesis in this field of research. One is the Evolutionists, which believe that the Bible is a myth and the layers on the earth built up over billions of years. The other are Creationists, which believe the Bible and that there is an intelligent designer who created the universe. They also believe there was a global flood that created most of earth’s layers and fossils in matter of months. What are their explanations for the dinosaurs becoming extinct?

EVOLUTIONISTS

1.) A massive asteroid hit the earth approx. 65 million years ago. It wiped out the dinosaurs, plesiosaurs, and flying reptiles. If any had survived we would have found them in more “recent” rock layers. Evolutionists dogmatically state there are no “recent” dinosaur fossils.

Problems - Evolutionists also state that small mammals, birds (or bird-like), crocodiles, fish, and numerous other creatures were alive at the time of the dinosaurs extinction, which are alive today. If an asteroid large enough to kill off every single dinosaur did hit the earth, it would have killed the above creatures as well. This fact puts the asteroid theory in danger of extinction! Also, there is no substantial evidence for it.

2.) Disease spread through them and killed them all. If any had survived we would have found them in “recent” rock layers.

Problems - I’m sure that disease could have killed a herd or several herds of the sauropods or theropods. It couldn’t however; spread to the marine reptiles and flying reptiles. And how would it effect dinosaurs living at the other end of the globe? It wouldn’t!

3.) A super-nova blew up and killed off the dinosaurs.

Problems - This theory has the same problems as hypothesis #1.

4.) Aliens hunted them to extinction (not many evolutionists believe this!)

Problems - There is isn’t evidence that “aliens” even exist!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now will look at Creationist's explanations for the extinction of dinosaurs. First, I will state that Creationists believe the Biblical account in the book of Genesis which says that there was a global flood that killed off almost all living things. However, there was two of every kind (not species!) of animal onboard the Ark, which after the flood, repopulated the earth. All this is believed to have happened approx. 4,500 years ago. So after the dinosaurs came off the Ark, what happened to them?

CREATIONISTS

1.) The climate had changed so much after the Flood, that the dinosaurs (including plesiosaurs and pterosaurs) all became extinct.

Problems - I think this could account for some of the dinosaurs becoming extinct. But I don't see how that could kill them all off, because there are large crocodiles and Komodo Dragons alive today. If there was a major climate change, it would kill off many creatures, but there is no evidence that it would kill off all the dinosaurs, including marine reptiles and flying reptiles.

2.) They were killed off by humans (Dragon-slayers).

Problems - I am sure that humans have killed dinosaurs before, but I believe it to be impossible for them to kill off every single one. I'm sure you agree with me, due to the fact that there are hundreds of species of dinosaurs.

3.) Their food sources became extinct and the dinosaurs all died.

Problems - Again, this would kill off some of the dinosaurs, but how would this effect the dinosaurs across the globe and the plant-eating kinds? or the water-dwelling kinds? or the flying reptiles?

My conclusion is that if there is no good explanation for all dinosaurs becoming extinct, then why should we believe they went the extinct in the first place?

Please note that I use the word the "dinosaurs" as meaning large marine reptiles, flying reptiles, and the "true" dinosaurs. I only use this in my article to be easier on the reader.
